Mr Herbert expressed his grave concerns regarding the controversial eco-towns programme and confirmed that the Conservative party would not go ahead with the Government's eco-towns scheme. Middle Quinton is opposed by all six local authorities in the area.

Speaking at the site, Mr Herbert said:

"The Conservative Party believes in trusting people. Decisions of this kind should be taken by local communities through their elected councillors, not imposed by central diktat from an arrogant Government that thinks it knows best. There's nothing ‘eco' about building thousands of houses on greenfield land, irrevocably changing a tranquil rural area."
